The vicinity maps show our condo in relation to the nearby surroundings. Each map gives you a different ‘Bird’s Eye’ perspective of the Kihei Akahi property. You’ll see that our lanai is just steps from the pool, a few minutes walk to the beach, 5 minutes walk to the first restaurants and pub and just a few more minutes walk to more.
Flying into Kahului Airport (Airport Code OGG)
Kahului Airport is the primary airport on the island of Maui and receives both overseas and inter-island flights. Though small, you’ll find all the necessary amenities. After arrival, if you’ve checked baggage, you’ll find them on one of the few carousels down on the ground level. In the baggage reception area, you’ll also find a wide variety of local activity brochures and magazines, be sure to grab a few of what interests you.
Upon arrival at the airport in Kahului you will probably need to pick up your rental car. There are a few on-site rental companies with their shuttles (outside of the arrival terminal, to the far right) and the rest will have their shuttles meet you at the center median. Most off-site rental companies are within a few minutes drive of the airport.
Public transportation is also available in the form of Airport Shuttles, Public Buses, Uber, Lyft and private Taxi. A full list is available in your ‘Welcome Packet’.
Driving Directions from Kahului Airport to Our condo
There are two main roads that will get you to the ‘South Side’ and to our home. South Kihei Road is beautiful and scenic and follows the coastline but can be a slow go during peak hours. The ‘Pi’ilani Highway will deliver you to the same place minus the traffic and ocean scenery but you will get a good view of the ‘Up Country’ area and Haleakala Volcano.
Generally, when we first arrive, we take S. Kihei Rd so we can soak up the ocean beauty, roll down the windows and breathe in the amazing scents and hear the ocean crashing. Any subsequent trips back to Kahului we take the Pi’ilani.
Depending on where your are picking up your rental car, find your way to Kiolani Pl. turn right and follow it west to Dairy Road (hwy 380). Briefly stay on Dairy Road and use the left two lanes to turn left on Hwy 311 (S. Puunene Ave.)
Follow Hwy 311 approximately 6.5 miles to the intersection/traffic light. (if you want the scenic route turn right here to North Kihei Road, then left on South Kihei Road). Continue on 311 (aka Piilani Highway) for 4.7 miles. Turn Right on Alanui Ke’ali’i. Follow to S. Kihei Rd. and turn left. Kihei Akahi is about .5 mile down on the left.

TIP- Slow down, enjoy the scenery! Take a deep breath of the wonderful tropical air. You’re on island time now and things move just a tad slower than the Mainland and the speed limit between Kahului and Kihei is slower than Mainlanders are used to.
TIP- Shopping in Kahului before you make the drive down to Kihei. You may want to stock up in Kahului while you’re here. It’s not that far to come back to Kahului but if you’re here and if your flight arrives well before our 3 o’clock check in, this is a good time to stock up on groceries and what not.
TIP – watch for the pedestrian signals. Always stop for pedestrians along S. Kihei Road.
