Take A Dog To The Beach With Maui Humane Society’s ‘Beach Buddies’ Program
Visitors can offer one of Maui Humane Society’s chosen ‘Beach Buddies’ a day of fun out of the shelter every Wednesday and Friday from 11am to 4pm.

If you’re like me, an animal lover, and miss your pets every time you go on vacation, worry not! You can ‘rent-a-pup’ for a day with Maui Humane Society. For a small donation you can get your dog fix and give a lucky dog a day away from the shelter.
How It Works: Each outing will start with a brief talk about safety, what to do and where to go on the island! When you arrive at the shelter at 11am you will be greeted by a staff member or volunteer at the main entrance. We will have your ‘Beach Buddy’ backpack ready with supplies and your dog will be bathed and ready to go!
If you live on island and aren’t visiting you can still volunteer to bring a buddy to the beach.
Q. I would like to bring my own dogs along on my Beach Buddies excursion. Is that allowed?
A. Although our Beach Buddies are often chosen for being dog-friendly, their compatibility with other dogs is still unpredictable so we ask that your Beach Buddy be the only dog during your excursion. Our shelter dogs share kennels, so they benefit greatly from the one-on-one attention that Beach Buddies provides. Plus, being the only dog gives your Beach Buddy a chance to really stand out to potential adopters!
A suggested donation of $20 is greatly appreciated and helps to offset costs associated with operating the program. You can support Beach Buddies by using the PayPal link below, gifting items from the shelter’s Amazon Wishlist, or donating in person at the time of your excursion.
Sign up using this link to guarantee a dog for that day. Available dogs are assigned on a first come, first served basis. Sign up at least 48 hours in advance to get first pick of dogs available for that week’s outing! If you are available less than 48 hours from a scheduled Beach Buddy day, let us know if you would like to be placed on standby – we will call you if a dog is available.

The Maui Humane Society, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, has been in existence for 66 years and is the only open admission animal shelter on the island of Maui. Our mission is “to protect and serve the lives of Maui’s animals, accepting all in need,educating the community, and inspiring respect and compassion towards all animals”.
Each year MHS helps thousands of animals, taking in over 6,000 animals to the shelter and serving many times that number through community outreach programs. Equally important, through our programs and services, we provide support for Maui’s approximately 90,000 pet owners as well as Animal Management Services for the County of Maui.
